Phonics

Course Description:

Phonics is designed to introduce Kindergarten students to the letters and sounds of our alphabet in an effort to get them to read words.

Course Objectives

The Kindergarten student will:

• Say names and sounds for each letter of the alphabet
• Have concept of 5 vowels
• Read consonant vowel blends
• Read and write one vowel words
• Know sight words
• Write sentences with capital letters and periods
• Read and write words in two consonants
• Understand simple compound words
• Understand possessives
• Know one vowel rule
• Know long vowel sounds
• Know two vowel rule
• Mark long, short and silent vowels
