Course Description

Eighth grade students will have technology classes in the laptop lab twice a week. Eighth grade technology is designed to teach students to utilize technology as a tool to support the curriculum and individual learning needs. Students will learn to use technology skills for study, work, and community participation in an ethical manner.

 

Course Objectives

 

The 8th Grade Technology Student will

• Learn to effectively search the internet for information

• Continue to develop Word Processing skills (Microsoft Word)

• Continue to develop keyboarding skills

• Continue to develop Powerpoint skills

• Continue to develop spreadsheet skills (Excel)

• Create music soundtracks for various themes with Garage Band

• Learn about multimedia movie creation using iMovie

• Help to write, produce, and edit their own movie project

• Learn BASIC computer programming

• Create an animated GIF from a series of original drawings

• Learn about journalism with publication of St. Matthew’s Yearbook

• Learn to navigate the internet

• Use correct vocabulary/terminology

• Learn ethical behavior on the internet

• Understand the dangers of the internet and develop skills/knowledge to keep themselves safe
