6th Grade Course Description
6th grade Spanish program promotes second language learning through speaking, listening, writing and reading opportunities. The program enhances understanding of diverse Spanish-speaking cultures around the world. Students meet twice a week for 50 minutes.
Course Objectives
Use Spanish phonetic and Spanish whole language approaches
Participate and learn Spanish language skills through a variety of games, songs, bilingual stories, cooking, prayer participation in church, art projects and role-playing
Investigate Spanish holidays such as Days Of The Dead by participating in the creation of a cultural altar, honoring a deceased loved one
Participate in Las Posadas
Role-play a community worker. Develop an interview with class peers portraying a community member ( character )
review subject pronouns, double digit Spanish numbers, Spanish vowel sounds, read and write Spanish phone numbers, days of the week, months of the year
introduce definite/ indefinite articles
introduce nouns with modifying adjectives/ color words
create a store front window demonstrating an understanding of clothing word vocabulary
introduce a variety of ar verbs (present tense) such as llevar, ser, estar and gustar
create a Spanish Travel Brochure for a Spanish speaking city in the USA
