Course Description

The Second grade Religion program prepares the students for First Reconciliation and First Communion. It is a simple introduction to Bible stories and teachings of the Catholic Faith. This program is intended to help the 2^nd grader internalize and practice their faith at home and in their parish.

Course Objectives

Second grade students will:

• Learn and understand the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist
• Begin to understand the Sacraments of Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick
• Deepen their understanding of the Mass
• Learn how to pray the Rosary
• Memorize the 10 Commandments
• Memorize: Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, and the Act of Contrition
• Learn about the Liturgical Year
• Learn about different saints and their impact on our world

Learning Activities

• Attend Friday school Masses and Masses for Holy Days of Obligation
• Participate in Stations of the Cross
• Adoration and special prayer services
• Religious arts and crafts activities
• Daily prayer
• Act out Bible stories
• Use of SMART board
• Tests
