Meet Mrs. Myrna Matulevich
Sixth Grade homeroom
6th 7th and 8th Computers
6th 7th and 8th Science
Mrs. Matulevich has been at St. Matt’s since 2000. Starting out as a parent volunteer working in the Library/Computer Lab, she ended up teaching full time, first K-8 computers for nine years, and then upper grades computers and science beginning in fall 2010. She holds a B.S. in Physics from MSU and an M.S. in Geophysics from the University of Utah. Mrs. Matulevich has interned as a geophysicist with Shell Oil as well as with NASA. She has also worked as a substitute teacher, and as a rancher, which is no surprise as she grew up on a ranch, attending a one-room school through 8th grade.
She is still is an avid horsewoman, enjoying reigning and barrel racing. She also enjoys telemark skiing in the winter and climbing mountains in the summer. She has two kids, both graduates of St. Matt’s. Blaine is now attending Caltech in Pasadena, CA, and Iris is currently attending Mrs. Matulevich’s alma mater Flathead High.
Her favorite scientists are Richard Feynman, “because he could explain physics to anyone,” and Sister Judy, “because she is my mentor.” Her favorite saints are patron saint of lost things St. Anthony, “because I need his help almost daily,” and also St. George. Mrs. Matulevich’s favorite school lunch is tacos, so she can turn it into a big taco salad.
As a teacher, Mrs. Matulevich loves to see the light bulb go on when a student ‘gets it’ for the first time. “I believe Science should be very hands-on, and that for Computers students should learn mostly how to figure out what to do, not just have a cookbook method.”
Mrs. Matulevich credits the small school atmosphere as what she likes most about St. Matt’s. “Teachers care about the students, and each other, and parents and teachers really work together for the education of the students.” When asked what the best part of her day is, Mrs. Matulevich writes: “The beginning, because you never know what is in store for you.”
