Meet Mrs. Laurie Kollmann
Third Grade
Mrs. Kollman has been teaching at St. Matthew’s since 2001, second and third grade. She graduated from St. Cloud State University, Minnesota with a major in Special Education and a minor in Early Childhood. She continued to take masters classes in counseling and special education, and also earned a degree in Elementary Education from Great Falls University. Prior to St. Matthew’s, her career experience included teaching for five years emotionally disturbed children in a private residential treatment in South Dakota, running a daycare for five years in Billings, and teaching preschool in Kalispell. She also was Religious Education coordinator K-6 at Risen Christ for 10 years.
Mrs. Kollman enjoys many sports including downhill and water skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, camping, golf, swimming, hockey, fishing, gardening and “anything I can do in the sun.” She also loves spending time with her girls just chatting. Prayer is a very important part of her life, and one of her favorite 3rd grade activities is to present stations of the cross in a dark gym behind a screen.
Mrs. Kollman is a teacher because “I love the energy each child gives me. I enjoy watching children learn and gain emotional, academic, and social skills. ” In fact the best part of her day is when the children walk in first thing in the morning. ”I forget everything else and my students become #1 in my life. They are such a joy and every day is new and challenging.”
There are a lot of things Mrs. Kollman loves about St. Matthew’s School, including “each and every child, the families, the wonderful loving staff and PRAYER.”
